MAT13 Beryl var. Aquamarine, Muscovite, Albite

Nagar, Hunza Valley, Northern Areas, Pakistan

13.5x 9x 3.5cm

$3800

A cabinet aquamarine from Nagar, with a 6.5x 4 cm cluster of gemmy and terminated blue aquamarine crystals nicely centered on an albite matrix.

This piece is rather unusual, in that the right-facing sides (and only the right-facing sides) of all the albite crystals are coated with a druse of muscovite.

Overall, this specimen differs greatly from the standard opaque-ish blue aquamarines that we have all grown so accustomed to seeing.  This piece was found around 2002, and is from my personal collection.

PBGM1 Plumbogummite

Yangshuo Pb/Zn Mine, Yangshuo, Guangxi Province, China/

6.7x 5.5x 4.3cm

$265

A cabinet specimen of this extremely rare mineral from the  recent find in China.  Although some specimens have been brought to market, the find did not receive much attention, and only relatively small quantities have been offered at recent shows, or online.

This discovery is the only significant find of the species since the mid-1800's, when plumbogummite was recovered at Roughton Gill and the surrounding localities.  Even those however, were not as rich as the Chinese specimens.

This piece has botryoidal plumbogummite completely covering a quartz matrix, as well as crystals of either pyromorphite or mimetite.  There is a little bruising to the specimen, but this s visible on nearly all of the pieces recovered so far.

When all is said and done however, it still looks like mold =).

PBGM2 Plumbogummite

Yangshuo Pb/Zn Mine, Yangshuo, Guangxi Province, China/

8.0x 7.0x 3.7cm

$265

Same as the above.  This piece has botryoidal plumbogummite completely covering a quartz matrix, as well as crystals of either pyromorphite or mimetite (it looks like pyromorphite, but I have heard both...).  There is a little bruising to the specimen, but this s visible on nearly all of the pieces recovered so far.

TVAN1 Vanadinite on Hollandite

Taouz, Er Rachidia Prov., Morocco

3.7x 3.2x 2.4cm

$100

A very nice miniature from Taouz.  Unlike the more common Mibladden specimens, those from Taouz generally have contrasting hollandite matrixes. Although you cannot see it in the photo, the top left crystal is missing its rear termination--but other than that the vanadinites are undamaged.

3.1x 2.7x 2.2cm

$135

A very choice "toenail", completely undamaged and with bright green dioptase crystals to 1.35 cm all around.

This is my favorite dioptase locality.

CHAZ1 Azurite

Chessy-les-Mines, Rhone, Rhone Alpes, France

3.3x 2.8x 2.5cm

$95

A highly sought after rosette of azurite from Chessy.  It looks almost like one of the La Sal, Utah pieces... except I had this mailed to me directly from France, so.....

CHAZ2 Azurite

Chessy-les-Mines, Rhone, Rhone Alpes, France

3.5x 2.7x 2.4cm

Like the above, except this one is a cluster of brilliant blue rosettes neatly piled onto each other, and with a bit of minor malachite.

ADM1 Adamite

Mina Ojuela, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico

5.4x 3.6x 3.6cm

$325

An exceptional Ojuela adamite, with a large, and very bright flower-like spray perched on a limonite matrix.  Although once plentiful, pieces of this quality are now quite uncommon.

The color is brighter in person.

BIS9- Bismuthinite
Tazna Mine, Cerro Tazna, Nor Chicha Prov., Potosi Depi., Bolivia

YARSN2- Wolframite,
Yaogangxian Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Prov., China
4.6x 3.7x 3.5 cm
$145

A terminated wolframite crystal, which as expected due to its high tungsten content, is quite heavy for its size.  One of the smaller crystals lacks a termination, though the main crystal is undamaged.  There is some muscovite, fluorite, and quartz attached to the reverse.

STIB1- Stibnite
Wuling Mine, Jiujiang Prefacture, Jiangxi Prov., China
12.6x 6.2x 3.6 cm
$185

A few years back, the best stibnite being found was coming from the Xikuangshan mine, in neighboring Hunan Province.  About a year and a half ago, amazing Ichinokawa-esque pieces started coming out of Jiangxi--and they lacked the striations and wear visible in so many of the earlier Hunan specimens.  Here is a very beautiful cabinet specimen from that find, will all the crystals terminated--including the smaller ones.

SPST1- Stibiconite ps. Stibnite
Catorce (Real de Catorce), Mun. de Catorce, San Luis Potosí, Mexico
6.4x 2.6x 1.4 cm
$68

A very sharp classic pseudo of stibiconite after stibnite.  A little dusty looking on the reverse, but undamaged--and it displays very well.

BEAU1 Wulfenite, Barite, Mimetite

Chenelette, Bujeau, Rhone, Rhone Alpes, France

3.3x 3.0x 2.0cm

$100

So when was the last time you saw one of these?  So many specimens from contemporary European localities never make it to the US market--it seems that almost all the French, German, or English specimens that make it to this side of the pond are "classics."

This is a bit newer.  I acquired this (and the next few) as part of a trade with a French field collector, who recovered the specimens in 1999, prior to the mine's closing in 2001.

It consists of several bright wulfenite crystals on a blady barite matrix, with numerous tiny mimetite bowties (<2.5 mm) scattered about.

BEAU2 Wulfenite, Barite, Mimetite, Fluorite

Chenelette, Bujeau, Rhone, Rhone Alpes, France

4.1x 3.4x 2.6cm

$68

Like the above, except the barite and mimetite are more pronounced.  There is also some fluorite scattered around (tiny 1.5 mm cubes--look at the bottom right picture.)

BEAU3 Mimetite, Wulfenite

Chenelette, Bujeau, Rhone, Rhone Alpes, France

4.5x 4.1x 2.3cm

$68

Another piece from the same mine, though this one is mostly mimetite, on a barite matrix.  There is one salmon colored (and quite transparent) wulfenite visible on the upper left of the specimen.

LAM1- Lemanskiite
El Guanaco Mine, Guanaco, Santa Catalina, Antofagasta Province, Chile
4.1 3.0x 2.5 cm
$65

A sample of this rare (though still quite pretty), and relatively new copper mineral, named for Chester Lemanksi in 1998.

This region has been producing quite a few new species lately....

OZ1- Osarizawaite
Silver Hill Mine, Pima Co., Arizona, United States
4.3x 3.3x 3.2 cm
$45

Another secondary copper mineral: osarizawaite, from Arizona.  As you may be able to guess from its name, the type locality for the species is actually in Japan (Honshu Island) though most of those available hail from Arizona..

Uchucchacua Mine, Lima Dept., Oyon Prov., Peru
3.5x 2.8x 1.5 cm
$65

A nice miniature, with several bright pink rhodochrosite scalenohedrons on a matrix coated with nicely contrasting manganese oxides.
