An exceptional large cabinet specimen of millerite from the United States.  While millerite is more commonly known from localities in Iowa and Michigan, specimens from Illinois are rarely encountered.  This one was collected in 1978.

Apart from the unusual locality, it is also exceptionally rich.  99.99 percent of millerite specimens contain only a few strands of the mineral; rarely do they contain tufts this large.

The millerite is protected in a quartz lined vug.
