Pyromorphite
Midnight Mine, Mullan Co., Idaho, United
States
9.7x
5.4x 3.6 cm
$600
A
spectacular pyromorphite from a locality near the Bunker Hill mine,
though which produced no where near as much material. This cabinet
specimen is richly covered with large compound crystals, in the light
color that the mine is known for. It comes from a 40-50 year old
collection, meaning that this is one of about 100 or so pieces
dispersed by Jack Crowly in the late 1960's. There we no other finds
of this material at the time, so this is almost certainly from that
find. I have only seen one other for sale, an inferior piece that
sold for $750. Although Collector's Edge recently brought a number of
newer specimens to market, they do not compare in quality to these
older pieces, which surpass them in terms crystal size and overall
aesthetics.
