Inner Mongolia
All but 5 specimens under $100
I've been buying a lot of this material-- I
just got back from a buying trip in Peru and found LOTS of new Inner Mongolian
material waiting for me when I returned. As always, there are a number of
cheaper pieces and reference specimens, I have assembled 57 of those pieces on
this page.
CLIM1

Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
14.0x
8.2x 7.5 cm
$140
Ball
shaped calcite aggregates on quartz. There are some blemishes to
the calcites, visible in the pictures. Still, much (much) cheaper than
you would expect to find even from the Chinese dealers.

3.8x 3.5 cm
$69
A
colorless, though faintly purplish crystal of fluorite from Huanggang.
Much cheaper than what the Chinese dealers were asking for comparable
specimens in Tucson. Contacted on the bottom (see bottom left
image) but displays well from the front.
|
|
|
|
CLIM6
Fluorite

Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
13.0x
10.5x 6.7 cm
A
cluster of colorless fluorite crystals from Huanggang. There
IS damage to the specimen (which is why it doesn't cost $700), but even
with that it is much cheaper than what the Chinese dealers would
have been asking for a comparable specimen in Tucson.

Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
8.7x
5.0x 4.2 cm
$48
A pair of quartz crystals on matrix. The quartz
crystals show the complex lateral faces that have become a hallmark of

Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
6.8x
6.3x 5.1 cm
$58
A
geode comprised of almost solid arsenopyrite. I am not sure, but
the arsenopyrite may be a pseudomorph after another mineral, or may just
be
coating something else.
|
|

|
CLIM17
Quartz
Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
7.0x

have become a hallmark of quartz from this mine. |
|
|
|
CLIM18
Quartz with Fluorite
Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
14.2x
7.0x 6.3 cm
$275
A large specimen, with a brownish (and terminated)
quartz crystal rising from a group of colorless fluorite. This
specimen would be about 3 or 4 times the price, except that there is
some damage to the fluorite on the front left part of the specimen.
The damage is more visible in person than in the picture. |
|
|
|
CLIM19
Fluorite
Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
7.6x
7.5x 7.0 cm
$48
A group of spherical, greenish-purple fluorite
aggregates on quartz. The fluorite "balls" are actually
composed of numerous small octahedrons. There is damage to this
piece (you can see a couple halved spheres in the images) which is why
it is so cheap. In any case, it's a decent reference example of
material that only came out for a very short interval, when the mine
first started producing.

CLIM20
Quartz (Beta Quartz "scepter")
Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
5.3x
3.6x 3.4 cm
$85
A stacked cluster of beta quartz. These
represent one of the more novel and unique quartz habits to come from
the mine. This is one of the more dramatic
pieces, as far as the difference between the size of the top crystal and
the "stalk". As with virtually all of
the beta quartz specimens I have seen from this mine, the luster leaves
something to be desired, but the interesting form more than compensates. |
|
|
|
CLIM21
Quartz (Beta Quartz "scepter")

$75
A stacked cluster of beta quartz, on matrix.
These represent one of the more novel and unique quartz habits to come
from the mine.
As with virtually all of the beta quartz specimens I
have seen from this mine, the luster leaves something to be desired, but
the interesting form more than compensates. |

$80
A stacked cluster of beta quartz, on matrix.
These represent one of the more novel and unique quartz habits to come
from the mine.
As with virtually all of the beta quartz specimens I
have seen from this mine, the luster leaves something to be desired, but
the interesting form more than compensates. |

$55
A stacked cluster of beta quartz, on matrix.
These represent one of the more novel and unique quartz habits to come
from the mine.
As with virtually all of the beta quartz specimens I
have seen from this mine, the luster leaves something to be desired, but
the interesting form more than compensates. |
|
|
|
CLIM24
Quartz (Beta Quartz "scepter")
Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
4.4x
2.2x 2.1 cm
$47
A stacked cluster of beta quartz, on matrix.
These represent one of the more novel and unique quartz habits to come
from the mine.
As with virtually all of the beta quartz specimens I
have seen from this mine, the luster leaves something to be desired, but
the interesting form more than compensates. |

CLIM25
Adularia
East
Ujimqin Banner, Dongwu Qi), Xilin Gol League (Xilinguole Prefecture),
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
3.6x
3.0x 1.4 cm
$55
These
gem adularia crystals predate the activities at Huanggang and the other
new ore mines, though they come from the same general area. They
remind me a bit of the gem orthoclase from Betroka, Madagascar, only
with a slightly darker color.

Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
6.7x
4.3x 2.8 cm
$59
A reference specimen of genthelvite. Although it
is cheap, it is worth noting that these Huanggang genthelvites (even in
this quality) are pretty amazing by the standards of what is usually
available of this mineral. There are of course much better pieces
from the mine, but it's good for the species, and again, it's cheap.

IMCN40
Aquamarine
Huanggang
Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng
Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
3.8x
1.9x 1.4 cm
$78
$40
One of the
most interesting new things to come from this mine has been a very
small quantity of aquamarine crystals.
Usually,
when I think of places where aquamarine occurs, I think of pegmatites--
not an iron mine situated in a skarn body.
For
what I understand there was one decently sized pocket of this material
some months back-- and most of the pieces were pretty bad.
The
crystal is singly terminated, the slanted face is not a fracture but
is actually heavily etched. This isn't the greatest piece, but
it is a decent reference specimen.
