APM01 Pyrite on Quartz with Scheelite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
10.3x 7.2x 5.1 cm
$485

A lovely cabinet sized sample of pyrite on quartz, featuring a sharp cubic crystal lying in a bed of quartz crystals.  While the piece is quite attractive, it is also rather interesting mineralogically-- there are a number of small brownish scheelites also present on the piece.  Scheelite is known from this location, but very very rarely encountered.

A few of the quartz crystals towards the center of the piece are sheared, but the piece displays exactly as shown.

APM02 Autunite
Nanjingqiao U deposit, Pingjiang Co., Yueyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
8.1x 5.1x 5.3 cm
$1500

A spectacular autunite specimen from China, of all places.  The quality of these autunites seems to be improving, though good ones are few and far between.  This one has a bright greenish yellow color that only becomes better if it is viewed in daylight, as these are highly fluorescent, even reacting to the UV in ordinary sunlight.

I really want to stress how significant these pieces are-- there has not been anything like this recovered since the 1960's, at the Daybreak Mine in Washington state, and compared to those, this piece has better color, while being probably 1/3 the price.

This has been stabilized (and I'm assuming most of you know already, but just in case: it is radioactive.)

I'm listing it for $1500, if no one buys it I'm just going to raise the price and keep it for longer, Autunites like this are not at all common.

APM03 Autunite
Nanjingqiao U deposit, Pingjiang Co., Yueyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
5.0x 4.2x 2.3 cm
$1100

A spectacular autunite specimen from China, of all places.  The quality of these autunites seems to be improving, though good ones are few and far between.  This one has an almost geen color that becomes better if it is viewed in daylight, as these are highly fluorescent, even reacting to the UV in ordinary sunlight.

I really want to stress how significant these pieces are-- there has not been anything like this recovered since the 1960's, at the Daybreak Mine in Washington state, and compared to those, these are probably 1/3 the price.

Of the group I'm posting here, this one is my favorite--in normal lighting, the color appears is more green than bright yellow, but the form is excellent.

This has been stabilized (and I'm assuming most of you know already, but just in case: it is radioactive.)

APM04 Autunite
Nanjingqiao U deposit, Pingjiang Co., Yueyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
6.1x 3.4x 4.6 cm
$585

A spectacular autunite specimen from China, of all places.  The quality of these autunites seems to be improving, though good ones are few and far between.  This one has a bright greenish yellow color that only becomes better if it is viewed in daylight, as these are highly fluorescent, even reacting to the UV in ordinary sunlight.

I really want to stress how significant these pieces are-- there has not been anything like this recovered since the 1960's, at the Daybreak Mine in Washington state, and compared to those, this piece has better color, while being probably 1/3 the price.

This one has a very large 1.9 cm crystal positioned right up front-- you can see most of the crystal, it isn't just stuck in a cluster the way autunutes typically are.

This has been stabilized (and I'm assuming most of you know already, but just in case: it is radioactive.)

APM05 Copper
Ridge Mine, Ontonagon Co., Michigan, United States
5.8x 3.9x 4.0 cm
$585

Beautiful isolated copper crystals on a rock matrix (rather than the usual mass of copper) sporting a dark tenorite patina, with a matrix partially composed of nicely contrasting green epidote.

This is an old piece collected underground while the mine was operational--NOT on the dumps. The Ridge Mine operated between approximately 1850 and 1880, which gives some idea of this piece's age.  A beautiful copper from one of the relatively harder to find Michigan copper localities.

APM07 Powellite
Pandulena Hill, Nasik Area, Maharashtra State, India
7.8x 6.0x 3.5 cm
$900

A very fine specimen of this rare calcium molybdate from India.  Despite the abundance of Indian minerals from the Deccan on the market, powellite has remained a rarity, and crystals of this size are particularly hard to come by.

The piece admittedly lacks a degree of contrast, with the powellite situated on a similarly colored stilbite matrix, but given the sharpness and size of the powellite crystal, it has no trouble standing out.

A beautiful and rare sample of this mineral, at what I think is a very good price for a piece of this quiality.

APM08 Azurite with Malacite
Khanong open pit, Sepon Mine, Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Laos
11.3x 8.6x 4.3 cm
$385

A nice large cabinet sized specimen of lustrous azurite with malachite from Laos.  I've priced it for more or less what you would see a Chinese dealer asking in Tucson.  Saw marks on the reverse.

APM09 Fluorite on Foitite Tourmaline
Erongo Mtns., Erongo Region, Namibia
7.1x 3.0x 2.1 cm
$385

A very aesthetically arranged specimen from this recent find, with a pair of purpe fluorite crystals perched on the side of a tourmaline crystal.

I am told that these are foitite (the vacancy dominant tourmaline species) and the hairy terminations certainly seem to support that, but I'm not sure if the entire tourmaline crystal is foitite or just part of it.  With species that are members of groups or series, there is often a gradation from one to the other, even within the same piece.

The fluorite crystals have slightly roughter surfaces, though that seems to be the case with just about all examples from this find.  They also have tourmaline inclusions.

All in all, a beautifully arranged example of a combination piece that incorporates one of the rarer tourmaline varieties.

APM11 Pyrite on Sphalerite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
5.2x 3.6x 2.9 cm
$285

A very unusual specimen from the Huanzala Mine, that is almost a reversal of the usual piece from this location.  On virtually every specimen from this mine that incorporates sphalerite, pyrite is the dominant species with the sphalerite usually adding no more than a slight bit of dark contrast in between pyrite crystals. On this piece however, the sphalerite crystals are large, lustrous and well formed-- and the pyrite cubes are the secondary species.

But their position is what makes this piece special-- they are practically dangling over the sphalerite crystals, making for an incredibly sculptural arrangement.... not to mention, it's one of the best sphelrites I've seen from this prolific location (though in fairness, It's not like I've seen all that many.)

APM12 Autunite
Nanjingqiao U deposit, Pingjiang Co., Yueyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
4.8x 4.0x 3.1 cm
$680

A spectacular autunite specimen from China, of all places.  The quality of these autunites seems to be improving, though good ones are few and far between.  This one has an almost greenish color that only becomes better if it is viewed in daylight, as these are highly fluorescent, even reacting to the UV in ordinary sunlight.

APM13 Autunite
Nanjingqiao U deposit, Pingjiang Co., Yueyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
9.0x 3.8x 6.1 cm
$580

A spectacular autunite specimen from China, of all places.  The quality of these autunites seems to be improving, though good ones are few and far between.  This one has an almost greenish color that only becomes better if it is viewed in daylight, as these are highly fluorescent, even reacting to the UV in ordinary sunlight.

APM14 Smithsonite ps. Calcite
Santa Eualia, Chihuahua, Mexico
8.5x 6.9x 3.5 cm
$345

A very sharp example of smithsonite after calcite, from Santa Eualia.  The crystals on this piece are smaller but much sharper and more lustrous than those from the find approximately 2 years ago. In excellent condition.

APM15 Chalcedony
Mamiju Area, Sulawesi Barat Prov., Sulawesi, Indonesia
9.1x 7.6x 4.3 cm
$175

A nice cabinet sized specimen of this unusual material from Indonesia.  It has good color and arrangement-- the individual orbs aren't overy compacted or too small.  There is some shearing across the front edge, though it can be displayed from either side.

APM16 Gold in Quartz
Golden West, Canyon Creek District, Grant Co., Oregon
4.7x 3.1x 2.4 cm
$325

A rare sample of native gold from Oregon.

APM17 Corundum var. Sapphire
Zazafotsy, Ihosy Dist., Horombe Region, Fianarantsoa Prov., Madagascar
7.4x 2.6x 5.4 cm
$165

A nice specimen of sapphite from Madagacar, this one with a lustrous and terminated crystal siting on the front edge of a schist matrix.

APM18 Quartz
El Mochito Mine, Near San Pedro Sula, Santa Barbara Dept., Honduras
5.1x 3.0x 2.3 cm
$135

An usual quartz specimen from an unusual locality.  This piece has a doubly terminated main crystal and a few secondary ones on a bluish matrix, all covered with a very fine quartz druse that gives it an extra sparkle, especially when moved.

APM19 Fluorite on Quartz
Yaogangxian Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Prov., China
5.1x 4.7x 2.6 cm
$385

A nice combination specimen of fluorite on quartz, from the Yaogangxian Mine.  The main crystal shows good phantoms, though it's a bit hard to photogrpah because of the transparency. Some contacting on the reverse.

APM20 Fluorite
Yaogangxian Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Prov., China
5.9x 5.0x 1.8 cm
$600

A very bright green fluorite, with a cluster of crystals lying flat against their matrix.  By the standards of what normally comes from China, the green is quite intense-- most of the greens I see are much lighter and come from the Xianghualing/ Xianghuapu mines.

APM21 Fluorite on Quartz
Yaogangxian Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Prov., China
5.7x 4.8x 2.7 cm
$365

A nice sample of purple fluorite with quartz, from the Yaogangxian Mine.

APM23 Fluorite
Judith Lynn Claim, Pine Canyon, Burro Mtns., New Mexico, United States
4.7x 3.5x 3.1 cm
$165

A very nice miniature sized specimen of octahedral fluorite with slightly curved faces, from New Mexico.  It is somewhat unusual to find crystals of this size at this location, this one is nicely isolated.  Flat on the bottom/back.

APM24 Fluorite
Mundo Nuevo Mine, Mundo Nuevo, Sanchez Carrion Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
3.6x 3.0x 3.1 cm
$125

A lovely "toenail" sized example of very light green Peruvian fluorite, this one a complete modified octahedron on a bit of matrix.  Displayable from multiple different angles.

APM25 Fluorite
Auglaize Quarry, Junction, Paulding Co., Ohio, United States
2.1x 1.75x 1.6 cm
$165

A wonderfully sharp fluorite cube with a crisp phantom, from the Auglaize Quarry in Ohio.  Contacted on the back corner, though still in excellent condition, and displayable from a couple different angles.

APM27 Creedite
Dachang Sn-Polymetallic Ore Field, Nandan Co., Hechi Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China
5.1x 4.9x 3.1 cm
$175

A very good creedite for this locality-- most of what you see on the market is Mexican wholesale material, and the relatively few I've seen from here tend to be smaller  (sub 7 mm) highly jumbled crystals.  This one had very large crystals, not just for Dachang, but for anywhere for that matter, and the overall arrangement is quite nice.  As far as a miniture sized specimen of Chinese creedite goes, you would have difficulty finding a better example.

APM28 Valentinite
Xikuangshan Sb deposit, Lengshuijiang Co., Loudi Prefecture, Hunan Province, China
7.4x 4.7x 3.8 cm
$285

A very rich example of valentinite from this recent find-- I've seen ugly pseudomorphs after stibnite from this location, but actual primary crystals have remained rare.  This piece is exceptionaly rich, with numerous small rosettes scattered over the display face of the piece.

Aside from these pieces, the only other valentinites you are likely to see for sale are Bolivian, from a find made approximately 4 years ago--though those were larger with a dull gray color.

APM30 Pyrite in Quartz
Galileia, Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.5x 3.8x 4.2 cm
$145

A sample of pyrite in quartz-- it isn't the prettiest thing, which is why most of these get cut and polished, but it it is terminated and has good form overall.  Most importantly, you can see a perfect pyrite dodecahedron right under the termination, in the upper portion of the crystal.  Hard to find!

APM31 Quartz
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
6.0x 5.9x 2.6 cm
$165

An aesthetically arranged pair of quartz crystals from Inner Mongolia, showing the complex lateral faces that are typical of specimens from this locality.  The front crystal is double terminated, and both show an attractive gradation from colorless at the terminations to light brown along their lengths.

APM32 Quartz incl. Epidote
Cevins, Beaufortain, Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France
8.0x 3.9x 2.9 cm
$225

Not the sort of thing I usually offer on this website, but I thought it was quite beautiful-- it's a quartz crystal with epidote inclusions that has been polished to clearly show the beauty of the epidotes frozen within. The bottom surface is rough.

APM33 Fluorite
Xianghualing Mine, Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field, Linwu Co. , Chenzhou Pref., Hunan Prov., China
8.4x 5.0x 4.1 cm
$145

A nice example of light green fluorite from China.  No damage.

It is a bit hard to photograph in the usual manner-- the camera has a hard time focusing so it tends to look more 2D than it actually is, though photographed in my hand it's a little easier to appreciate.

APM34 Andradite Garnet
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner (Keshiketeng Co.), Ulanhad League (Chifeng Prefecture), Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China
4.2x 4.1x 4.3 cm
$265

A large garnet crystal from the Huanggang Mine.  Andradite crystals from this locality are seldom seen this large, and even the smaller ones are rarely so distinct-- they are always embedded in tightly packed clusters of other garnets.  It is contacted on the reverse, but can be dispalyed from a couple different angles to hide this (as shown in the pictures).
