XYG01 Fluorite
Xiayang Mine, Yongchun Co., Fujian Prov., China
13.8x 10.3x 3.7 cm
$850

A beautiful plate of dodecahedral fluorite crystals from the recent find at the Xiayang Mine (sometimes referred to as the "Yongchun Mine.). While the vast majority of specimens from here are a duller gray green, a number of them have rich blue hues which when combined with green and yellow zones lead to an incredibly saturated, rich blue-green color.  The main crystals on this plate have that color, the rest are more of a crisp green.

The color of these pieces varies strongly with lighting-- under incandescent light they look grayish and undersaturated.  To be best appreciated, they need the equivalent of indirect sunlight.  What is depicted in the pictures is what you would see if the piece were placed next to a window on a cloudy day.

I have never seen this rich he from another place-- not Illinois, not France.  I bought a huge lot of the material, and there were not many pieces like this-- most were that duller gray-green.
