Peru Update #2: Mixed Minerals

A selection of minerals from Peru. It has been a few years since my last trip there, I used to go annually but many of the mines best known for producing specimens have since closed— Uchucchacua, Pachapaqi, Huaron, Morococha, Casapalca, Quiruvilca, etc.  On this trip, I mainly expected to find pyrite (and I was not disappointed!) but I also managed to bring back a number of other minerals as well— some new, and others held back in the inventories of local friends.  A particular bright spot in the Peruvian specimen industry has come from small scale artisanal miners who enter some of old localities to search for minerals. Although, the number of places where this is possible is limited.

As a side note, I would like to take a moment to mention someone. This trip felt somewhat different, as in the past I had always spent a lot of time with a good friend- Jorge Luis Rojas (jlminerals on Ebay). A number of you likely purchased specimens from him on Ebay; his eye for minerals and his photography skills were unsurpassed among the Peruvian dealers.  In fact he was one of the main photographers for the “Peru: Paradise of Minerals” book.  If you did not buy from him directly, but you bought a Peruvian mineral from me or anyone selling (then) “current production” in the early 2000’s, you probably have something that passed through his hands. He passed away in August of 2020 when the COVID epidemic hit Lima.  I just wanted to take a moment to mention him, when I was still in college and on one of my first buying trips, he helped teach me the ropes of exportation and many small details that I have used on almost every one of my trips since, regardless of the country.  He was always just a really good person who never hesitated to help anyone and who could put business aside and just “be normal” once the monetary part the interaction was done—  as simple as that sounds, it’s actually quite special.

P22M01 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
15.2x 13.2x 10.4 cm
$2600

A beautiful example of a fluorite on a quartz cluster, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. These fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges, and if you look closely there are even some phantoms near the center. The bottom of the quartz cluster is complete as well, not contacted.  A couple tiny chips on some of the quartz point.s

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M02 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
10.3x 9.2x 5.7 cm
$485

A really nice example of barite from Cerro Warihuyn. These first started coming out around 2005, it's mostly an artisanal endeavor so pieces continue to come out from time to time. I usually avoid them for that very reason, but this group was particularly nice-- there are a few different styles that come from here, the thicker, glassier and more lustrous ones (like this) are probably my favorites.  The crystal also sits up nicely, with just enough space between it and its matrix to allow some light to pass through it.

P22M03 Epidote
Cantera San Felipe, Cascas, Gran Chimu Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
13.0x 9.3x 5.5 cm
$685

A very attractive spray of epidote crystals, from a 2019 find at Cantera San Felipe -- a "cantera" is a quarry but I have also seen the locality described as "San Felipe Mountain," so while the location definitely exists I'm not sure about the specifics.

This one has a number of freestanding crystals, arranged rather nicely.  While there are some missing ones (it's most visible when viewed from the side) the overall composition is particularly nice--the main spray is positioned at the top of the matrix, which itself has a sort of    triangular shape that guides your eye toward the main cluster.  If you look closely, you will see the damage-- but given the number and complexity of the crystals, it is not immediately apparent--- my first impression was "wow, that's a nice epidote," and it was only upon holding it and inspecting it closely that I saw the issues.

There have been a few new localities for Peruvian epidote over the last several years, as well as there old ones from Pampa Blanca.  While most of those tended to be somewhat stubby (Pisco Prov.) tightly packed (Canta Prov.,) or fan shaped (Pampa Blanca) this is pretty much the only time I can recall seeing these more distinct, elongated crystals.

P22M04 Chrysocolla with Brochantite
Los Azules Mine, Copiapo, Atacama Region Chile
9.4x 74x 5.3 cm
$460

A beautiful example of green brochantite on bubbly blue chrysocolla, from older finds in Chile.

P22M05 Apatite with Quartz
Casapalca Mine, Chicla Dist., Huarochiri Prov., Lima, Peru
4.9x 2.7x 3.5 cm
$665

This is one of 4 apatite examples from this mine posted here-- this discovery seems to be something of a one-off, I've never seen apatite from here before nor is it listed as coming from this mine on Mindat.  This are older material that was in the stock of a dealer.

Apatite in general is not something that is common from Peru-- on all my past trips I only ever got one repaired crystal from Julcani.  This time there were pieces from the new discovery at Huanzala, but these older ones from Casapalca (and this one in particular) are some of the best that I have personally seen from the country-- it's decently sized and it sits rather nicely on its matrix.  Not to overstate--there are some massive ones in books and museums, but as far as what I've seen for sale or on trips, these are quite good.

P22M06 Axinie with Epidote
Cullhuay, Huaros Dist., Canta Prov., Lima Dept., Peru
6.7x 5.6x 3.4 cm
$400

A very beautiful example of axinite with epidote.  There is something very organic about this piece-- it looks like moss growing on wood, or something from the inside of a carefully curated terrarium.

P22M07 Chrysocolla with Quartz
Lily Mine (Lilly Mine), Pisco Umay, Ica Department, Peru
14.3x 11.7x 13.0 cm
$860

A large cabinet specimen of chrysocolla with quartz.  The display face is quite sparkly, with drusy quartz crystallized over small chrysocolla stalactites.

P22M08 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
14.2x 9.2x 7.8 cm
$1600

A beautiful example of a fluorite on a quartz cluster, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. These fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges.  The bigger crystal has cubic green phantoms.   There are a few chips on the quartz points, the fluorites are perfect.  It's a very unusual fluorite color, the combination of green and blue-purple, with the color concentrated in the outer regions of the crystals makes them quite unlike pieces from anywhere else.

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M09 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
13.5x 6.5x 5.8 cm
$850

A very beautiful example of fluorite on quartz, although this one is not perfect, it is still one of my favorites.  The crystal is perfectly positioned at the midpoint of the specimen, and the white quartz behind the fluorite accentuates the internal zoning and color concentrations near the faces. The fluorite crystal is cleaved on the right side however, and the quartz crystals are not all perfect-- the main one has a couple small chips on the termination, and a couple of the secondary ones are broken. Normally I would say these are disqualifying characteristics-- but as you can see from the pictures,  it still displays really, really well..

P22M10 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
6.8x 5.8x 4.8 cm
$385

A beautiful example of a fluorite on a quartz cluster, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. These fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges.  There are a couple small chips on the secondary quartz points.  It's very beautifully arranged-- I really like when one mineral is artistically perched on another, and this is a great example of such a piece.

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M11 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
12.5x 3.4x 3.0 cm
$800

A beautiful example of a fluorite on quartz, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. These fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges.  The crystal also has light cubic phantoms if you look closely.   There are a couple very tiny chips on the quartz points and an abrasion on one edge of the fluorite, though like all of these, you have to look closely to see it.  It's a very unusual fluorite color, the combination of colorless and blue-purple, with the color concentrated in the outer regions of the crystals makes them quite unlike pieces from anywhere else.

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M12 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
8.0x 2.3x 2.9 cm
$445

A beautiful example of a fluorite on quartz, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. These fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges.  Interestingly, the quartz sketched on the back-- it's not a broken shard.  It's very beautifully arranged-- I really like when one mineral is artistically perched on another, and this is a great example of such a piece.

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M13 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
10.8x 3.5x 3.0 cm
$365

A beautiful example of fluorite on quartz, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. These fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges.  Interestingly, the quartz sketched on the back-- it's not a broken shard.   I really like when one mineral is artistically perched on another, and this is a great example of such a piece.

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M14 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
5.3x 2.7x 2.5 cm
$325

A beautiful example of a fluorite on quartz, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. The fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges.  There are a couple small chips on the quartz points, and one face of the fluorite may be a cleave..... but it's still quite beautiful--and it displays exactly as shown. I particularly like when one mineral is artistically perched on another, and this is a nice example of such an arrangement

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M15 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
7.0x 5.3x 3.7 cm
$200

A beautiful example of a fluorite on a quartz cluster, from a recent find at Pasto Bueno. The fluorite has a bluish purple color, with the color concentrated near the surfaces and edges.

This mining area became famous in the 1970's, when it produced spectacular rhodochrosite.  In recent years, there have also been finds of hubnerite.

P22M16 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
6.4x 5.6x 5.4 cm

P22M17 Apatite on Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
13.3x 8.9x 6.4 cm
$600

This was the richest piece I was able to obtain from a recent find of apatite at Huanzala.  While this mine is best known for its pyrite (and indeed, much of the matrix hidden underneath the quartz is actually cubic pyrite) the mine also produces a number of other species from time to time.  This piece has a display face studded with numerous apatite crystals to about 6-7 mm, and they are quite well exposed.  In comparison, most other pieces this size were primarily pyrite specimens, and just had a few apatites scattered here and there.  Apatite is not a common mineral from Peru-- there are only a few pictures on Mindat, and over the course of my several trips I had only ever brought one back before-- that one was from Julcani.

P22M17A Apatite on Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
9.6x 7.4x 4.4 cm
$450

A rich example of apatite on matrix from at Huanzala.  While this mine is best known for its pyrite the mine also produces a number of other species from time to time.  This piece has  numerous apatite crystals to about 6-7 mm, most clustered near the top right.

P22M18 Galena (Spinel Twins!) on Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
10.7x 6.0x 5.2 cm
$435

A rather exceptional galena from Huanzala, not for having the particularly good luster that Huanzala galenas usually have, but for its richness and crystallization. The entire display face is covered with gray spinel twins, and where the matrix peeks through the overgrowth you can see the underlying octahedral pyrite crystals.

P22M19 Galena with Seligmanite on Quartz
Palomo Mine, Castrovirreyna Prov., Huancavelica Dept., Peru
9.3x 7.2x 4.4 cm
$265

An older example of dodecahedral galena on quartz, from the Palomo Mine.  The galena crystals are dusted with micro crystals of seligmannite, a rare lead, copper, antimony sulfide.

For several years starting around 2008, the Palomo Mine produced large quantities of realgar, as well as galena and sphalerite.  There was so much of this material, it almost used to be one of those things that one would take for granted when visiting Peru...  Of course, like everything , it came to an end.  By 2017 there was almost none to be found. This is a nice example of a galena from the mine.

P22M20 Fluorite on Quartz
Pasto Bueno, Pallasca Prov., Ancash Dept., Peru
11.0x 9.3x 4.0 cm
$565

A nice example of fluorite on quartz, from older finds at Pasto Bueno.  This piece has a number of cubic bluish green crystals, with interesting compound faces.  The crystals all cling to a cluster of quartz crystals.  Interestingly, the back and bottom are not contacted, but etched.

P22M20A Tetrahedrite
Mundo Nuevo District, Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
9.0x 6.2x 6.4 cm
$465

A pair of very large, interlocking tetrahedrite crystals from finds made several years ago at Mundo Nuevo. They have a matte luster resulting from an overgrowth of something else-- I suspect bournonite or sphalerite, as those are what I saw on other pieces from the same find.  The two crystals have an interesting sort of interlocking arrangement-- there are even a couple holes near the bottom, between the crystals, where it seems that quartz crystals once existed. Contacted on the bottom/ lower back.  Really big crystals compared to what one usually sees!

P22M21 Malachite with Quartz and Selenite
Lily Mine (Lilly Mine), Pisco Umay, Ica Department, Peru
7.0x 4.2x 2.9 cm
$295

A beautiful example of malachite orbs covered in drusy quartz, with small selenite crystals elsewhere scattered on the matrix.

P22M22 Manganocalcite
Racracancha Mine, Tinyahuarco Dist., Pasco Prov., Pasco Dept., Peru
9.4x 7.8x 7.0 cm
$345

A very unusual manganocalcite specimen from the Racracancha Mine. For a few years around 2010, this mine produced exceptional pyrites, as well as a number of manganocalcite and sphalerite specimens.  Most of those manganocalictes were twins, usually somewhat closely packed or scattered on dark sphalerite. This one is particularly unique-- stacked, almost stalactitic clusters of rhombs.  As with all of these, it fluoresces a bright pink.

P22M23 Calcite on Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
8.4x 6.0x 3.8 cm
$285

Probably the best specimen from a small recent discovery of calcite on pyrite-- though there is still a spot of damage on the lower right side of the calcite cluster. Most of them were cleaved or quite heavily damaged by blasting-- I picked dout a few but this was the one in the best condition.  The calcites for a rather nice crest of very satisfyingly chunky crystals on the top of the pyrite matrix.

P22M24 Galena with Bournonite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
10.8x 8.6x 5.2 cm
$395

An large example from a find made several years ago, this sulfide rich matrix is completely covered with rounded galena crystals.  Interspersed among them are bournonite cogwheels. Yet another oddity from a mine primarily known for pyrite.

P22M24A Bournonite with Galena
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
4.6x 3.5x 2.8 cm
$120

An nice example of bournonite cogwheels mixed in with rounded galena crystals, on a sulfide rich matrix. Yet another oddity from a mine primarily known for pyrite.

P22M25 Orpiment with Barite
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
9.8x 5.9x 2.4 cm
$285

A nice example of orpiment with barite, from discoveries made many years ago at the Quruvilca Mine.  Like many of the once prolific specimen producing mines in Peru, this one is now closed. I have sprayed this with a UV absorbing spray to protect the orpiment.

P22M26 Orpiment with Barite
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
9.2x .3x 4.4 cm
$195

A nice example of orpiment, from discoveries made many years ago at the Quruvilca Mine.  Like many of the once prolific specimen producing mines in Peru, this one is now closed. I have sprayed this with a UV absorbing spray to protect the orpiment.

P22M26A Arsenic
Quiruvilca Dist., Santiago de Chuco Prov., La Libertad Dept., Peru
13.3x 11.7x 2.4 cm
$680

A sizable older chunk of native arsenic from Peru. Although not particularly flashy, these specimens are probably the best native arsenics to come from Peru—and they certainly represent a significant occurrence of the species, being every bit as good as the classic German or Czech pieces.  Of course these days, it is extremely rare to see such large plates of solid arsenic from the old localities-- not that the Peruvian ones are exactly easy to find now either, especially since Quiruvilca closed. .

This piece displays good botryoidal from, and when viewed from the side you can see the many layers that make up the specimen.

P22M27 Apatite with Siderite
Casapalca Mine, Chicla Dist., Huarochiri Prov., Lima, Peru
6.7x 6.3x 3.0 cm
$295

This is one of 4 apatite examples from this mine posted here-- this discovery seems to be something of a one-off, I've never seen apatite from here before nor is it listed as coming from this mine on Mindat.  This are older material that was in the stock of a dealer.

Apatite in general is not something that is common from Peru-- on all my past trips I only ever got one repaired crystal from Julcani.  This time there were pieces from the new discovery at Huanzala, but these older ones from Casapalca are some of the better ones that I have personally seen from the country.  Not to overstate--there are some massive ones in books and museums, but as far as what I've seen for sale or on trips, these are quite good.

P22M28 Apatite with Chalcopyrite
Casapalca Mine, Chicla Dist., Huarochiri Prov., Lima, Peru
6.5x 6.3x 2.0 cm
$345

This is one of 4 apatite examples from this mine posted here-- this discovery seems to be something of a one-off, I've never seen apatite from here before nor is it listed as coming from this mine on Mindat.  This is older material that was in the stock of a dealer.

P22M29 Apatite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
2.4x 2.0x 1.6 cm
$145

An really nice thumbnail from a new find at Huanzala, this piece has a few nicely positioned yellow apatite on a bit of pyrite and quartz. Apatite in general isn't terribly common from Peru, this was something of a surprise.

P22M30 Apatite on Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
4.2x 3.7x 2.2 cm
$165

A cute miniature sized example of apatite on a cluster of pyrite cubes, with a bit of quartz separating the two.  Apatite in general isn't very common from Peru, this was something of a surprise.

P22M31 Apatite with Pyrite and Calcite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
6.3x 4.3x 4.2 cm
$200

A nice example of yellow apatite on a sulfide matrix, with calcite.  Apatite in general isn't very common from Peru, this was something of a surprise.

P22M32 Quartz on Chrysocolla
Atacama Region Chile
7.9x 7.8x 4.2 cm
$265

A freakishly vivid blue example of drusy quartz over chrysocolla, from Chile. This is quite a bit more color saturated than the Peruvian stuff I am used to seeing-- compared to both Lily and Acari.

P22M33 Scheelite with Calcite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
4.0x 1.9x 1.5 cm
$135

Little, but cute (and quite rare!). This is a small scheelite crystal sharing a bit of matrix with a columnar calcite.  Scheelite is not a common mineral from Huanzala, in fact it's the first one I've ever personally encountered (of course, having seen a couple others in books or online.). This area where they have been working had a couple interesting surprises, in addition to the usual pyrites.  It is from the same vein as the apatites-- but despite buying a couple lots of that material, this was the only piece that I saw with any scheelite!

Fun fact (unrelated to this specimen but interesting to note): Some of the worlds best scheelite specimens came from a pocket at the Turmalina Mine, in Peru.  Few people know about them, but they give the more famous localities like Xuebaoding a run for their money in every sense but color.

P22M34 Fluorite on Quartz
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
4.3x 3.7x 2.8 cm
$165

A nice reference sample of a green fluorite from Huanzala. Apparently there was a recent discovery of this stuff,  but the only larger ones I saw were damaged. I suspect there were some good ones that escaped shortly before I arrived-- regardless, here is a nice (though imperfect) reference example of this material.  In recent years the fluorite from here has been mainly colorless, though going back to 2006 there were some pinks, and paler greens. Max dimension includes that little pyrite protrusion.

P22M35 Fluorite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
3.3x 3.1x 2.8 cm
$85

A nice reference sample of a green fluorite from Huanzala. Apparently there was a recent discovery of this stuff,  but the only larger ones I saw were damaged. I suspect there were some good ones that escaped shortly before I arrived-- regardless, here is a nice (though imperfect- it ic cleaved) reference example of this material.  In recent years the fluorite from here has been mainly colorless, though going back to 2006 there were some pinks, and paler greens.  It's not something you often see from the mine, and even with the imperfections they're quite decent for this locality, so I figured I'd post them.

P22M36 Fluorite with Pyrite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
3.4x 2.8x 4.0 cm
$85

A very weird reference sample of fluorite from Huanzala. It is not damaged, but unfortunately it (naturally) crystalized sort of crappily. I've never seen this color from this mine-- there were some greens (like the preceding pieces) recently discovered, but I didn't see any more of these-- nor have I in the past.  That doesn't necessarily make it valuable (especially considering how not-well crystalized it is) but it's weird enough that I wanted to post it.

P22M37 Sphalerite
Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Dos de Mayo Prov., Peru
4.5x 4.1x 3.5 cm
$155

A rather good sphalerite from Huanzala. Most often, this mineral occurs as small 2-3 mm crystals scattered on pyrite, and in 2017 it was found (again accompanying pyrite) as 2-3 cm crystals, but this is one of the only specimens from Huanzala that I have seen where a good sphalerite is the main focus of the specimen.  As you can see, it displays well from a couple angles but the contacting and chips are also more apparent from others.

P22M38 Chrysocolla
Los Azules Mine, Copiapo, Atacama Region Chile
10.9x 8.2x 6.4 cm
$365

A very vivid blue specimen of botryoidal chrysocolla from Chile.

P22M39 Broochantite on Chrysocolla
Los Azules Mine, Copiapo, Atacama Region Chile
4.0x 3.7x 3.6 cm
$135

A beautiful example of green brochantite in a chrysocolla lined vug, from older finds in Chile.

P22M40 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
8.3x 6.5x 2.3 cm
$440

A really nice example of barite from Cerro Warihuyn. These first started coming out around 2005, it's mostly an artisanal endeavor so pieces continue to come out from time to time.

There are a few different styles that come from here, the thicker, glassier and more lustrous ones (like this) are probably my favorites.  The crystal also sits up nicely on a sliver of matrix, allowing light to pass through it.

P22M41 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
8.2x 7.1x 3.0 cm
$335

A really nice example of barite from Cerro Warihuyn. These first started coming out around 2005, it's mostly an artisanal endeavor so pieces continue to come out from time to time.  There are a few different styles that come from here, the thicker, glassier and more lustrous ones (like this) are probably my favorites.  This one has some iron oxide coating, and a very nice, flower-like arrangement of the crystals.

P22M42 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
11.6x 5.4x 4.0 cm
$400

A very nice barite specimen from Cerro Warihuyn, this one has a glass-like pane of barite siting up nicely on a pillar of matrix.  It is so transparent, you can see cleanly through to the matrix behind it!

P22M43 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
6.6x 4.7x 3.3 cm
$300

A very nice barite specimen from Cerro Warihuyn, this one has a glass-like pane of barite siting up nicely on a bit of matrix.

There are a few different styles that come from here, the thicker, glassier and more lustrous ones (like this) are probably my favorites.

P22M44 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
5.8x 5.0x 2.6 cm
$285

A very nice barite specimen from Cerro Warihuyn, this one has a glass-like pane of barite siting up nicely on a bit of matrix.

There are a few different styles that come from here, the thicker, glassier and more lustrous ones (like this) are probably my favorites.

P22M45 Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
9.2x 6.7x 5.6 cm
$395

A very nice barite specimen from Cerro Warihuyn, this one has a glass-like pane of barite siting up nicely on a bit of matrix.

There are a few different styles that come from here, the thicker, glassier and more lustrous ones (like this) are probably my favorites.  This was a particularly good group, so I brought them back...

P22M45A Barite
Cerro Warihuyn, 2 hours walk from Miraflores, Huamalias. Huanuco, Peru
5.8x 5.8x 3.2 cm
$265

There are a few different styles that come from here, the thicker, glassier and more lustrous ones (like this) are probably my favorites.  This was a particularly good group, so I brought them back...
